I never envisioned how difficult it would be to create a blog name. But after many iterations, I finally settled on “New City New State”. The name just prior to this one was “New Phase New City”, but I was worried that people would get confused with Phrase or Faze (how is it spelled, again?). I briefly considered “New City New Lens”, but I decided that people would expect wayyyy too much out of my photography. So I went to the thesaurus and stumbled upon State. The multiple meanings fit perfectly!
My recent backstory: Last October with my twin college freshmen sons settled in their dorm rooms and my newly minted college graduate daughter enjoying her new career and living independently, I was able to spend a few weeks in New York City with my husband where he had been living full-time(ish) for the previous year. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I was in a new phase of life, in addition to, being in an incredibly vibrant city. I decided that my goal would be simple: Get out of the apartment every day and take a photo of one new interesting sight. I kept the entries going for my three week stay in October and the two weeks in November/December, but I soon came to realize that the journal which was supposed to include a photo per entry was limiting and also cumbersome as we don’t have a photo printer in our NYC apartment. So I started posting on Facebook instead (see previous post). The big takeaway is that as a new empty nester with time on my hands in an amazing city waiting to be explored was an opportunity that I shouldn’t squander. Thus, the New City (New York) New State (empty nester) blog was born.
I look forward to searching out new unique experiences in my new city with my new state of mind and reporting back on this blog! And if you see my kiddos, please give them a home cooked meal or the very least a big hug for me!

Love your new blog! I tried the like feature but I’m not sure it worked right for me.
